In the recent Battery Innovation Days event, PHOENIX project coordinator Maitane Berecibar from Vrije Universiteit Brussel, along with Marja Vilkman from VTT, took the stage in Session “Self-healing batteries. Can we dream about an everlasting battery?”.
The duo presented an insightful overview of the ongoing European projects with a keen focus on self-healing functionalities. They underscored a common hurdle faced by these initiatives – the challenge of upscaling. As they aptly put it, “upscaling is the major challenge in taking self-healing functionalities to the next level.”
This part opened a gateway to a broader conversation about the transformative potential of self-healing technologies in the energy storage landscape. We are on the verge of an exciting breakthrough in battery innovation and it is clear that scaling up is the key to opening a new era in this field. Therefore, it is important to study it and give space to innovative projects that aim to do research in the energy field.
The audience was particularly curious about the sensors, triggering mechanisms, and self-healing materials employed in the PHOENIX project. The session provided a platform to showcase our advancements and engage in a dialogue about the future of battery technology. Stay tuned for more updates on our journey towards creating sustainable and long-lasting batteries!
